Established in 2017 by a Verdi local, a bet was made between a father and son. If the tavern/restaurant was not open before the son turned 40, he would have to chop off his beard. As the two were lawndarting back to Verdi from a road trip , the son asked his father what he thought of the name Chop 40. His dad loved it, and so Chop 40 was hatched, with no beard harmed.
